Mission Update For May and June 2009
Chris and Noelle Jones, Missionaries Serving in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, West Africa

Calvary Chapel Abidjan-Cocody is growing!
Hello brothers and sisters. We have four stories to share with you in this update. We will give you a short introduction to each story and a link to the entire page. You can choose which story to read as you have time to look at them. We realize that long stories are sometimes difficult for our friends to read because of lack of time or access to the internet. So we felt this would give you the option of coming back several times to catch up on all the news.

Meet Koffi Kouakou.
This little four year-old is the son of Mr. Kouakou Ernest and Mrs. Kouakou Adjoua Nathalie. Koffi has a big sister, but she lives in the north of Côte d'Ivoire with here Grand Parents. Koffi has a serious skin infection which presents itself with large infectious blisters.

Koffi Kouakou has been healed of a serious skin infection.

In his case these blisters appeared on his head and have now affected his eyes. His eyes have swollen shut and he has problems seeing. We prayed for him and took him to see a doctor. The problem comes from a staff infection which can be fatal if not treated. The Kouakou family are struggling to survive here in Abidjan. Like many people living here they have come from the interior of the country seeking employment and a better life for themselves and their children. (See the entire story)

Serving In The Body Of Christ!
One of the things that brings joy to my heart is when the people of God join together to serve Him. Some of our church family decided it was time to give the building we meet in a good cleaning and a fresh coat of paint. Everyone was full of joy and excitement.

The room where we meet hadn't been painted since before the war started in 1999. The paint was literally peeling off the walls and the ceiling. We have access to three rooms. One for our church service and another ajoining room for children's ministry. The third room is used as a classroom on Wednesday evening and Saturday night for worship team practice. We can use the rooms all week if needed and we plan to have a movie night once a month for community evangelism outreach.

About 30 people showed up on a Saturday afternoon and cleaned the place from top to bottom. (See the entire story)

Young Adults group at Calvary Chapel Abidjan-Cocody.
The Matthew 6:33 Young Adults Group!
We started two new ministries this month. One is the Matthew 6:33 Group: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. This is the young adults group in our church. We minister weekly at the University of Cocody, so many of the students attend our church services. We will be studying subjects which have application to the young adult and single person. (See the entire story)
The Ephesians 5:31 Couples Group!
The Ephesians 5:31 Couples Group!
A man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh...Ephesians 5:31. In this part of Africa it is quite common for people to have multiple wives. It is also possible to be married in the African tradition without a legal or civil ceremony. There are many issues surrounding the marriage relationship which need to be discussed. So we started a group for the couples in our church. We will be looking at what it means to be a married couple from a Biblical perspective. (See entire story)

Gospel For Africa Translation Team!
We now have a small office set up at our home with space for four people to work on translating Bible teaching from English to French. We are using the translations to teach in Gospel For Africa Bible Training Center and at the University of Cocody Bible Study. We also translate other materials to be used for children's ministry and other ministry within the church and for evangelism outreach. (See the entire story)

Thank you for your prayers and continual support. May God bless you as you seek to serve Him in spirit and in truth.
